One of the most popular coastal and native bush half day hikes on Stewart Island

Board the water taxi at Halfmoon Bay for a 30 minute trip to Port William before disembarking and hiking to Maori beach. A site where early Maori settled and later became a saw milling community in the early 1900s. We then make our way to Lee Bay via Little River, a stunning tidal river mouth, overhanging with Rata trees.

Meet our guide at Halfmoon Bay Wharf 10 minutes prior to departure time where we board a water taxi for the 30 minute boat tour to Port William jetty. We then hike the 10kms to Lee Bay via Maori Beach. At the end of the hike, we meet the shuttle at Lee Bay for a ride back to Halfmoon Bay.

  • 30 minute water taxi ride
  • One of our experienced local guides for the duration of your hike
  • Shuttle from Lee bay to Halfmoon Bay
  • Department of Conservation concession fees

A good level of fitness is essentail. This 10 km track is a hike rather than a walk. Guests must be able to walk unassisted for at least 4 hours and be able to manage uneven ground and many steps.
