Rakiura Track - 3 Day Guided Hike
Experience a 3-day guided hike along the 32km Rakiura Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. But… instead of heavy packs, crowded huts, no showers to get rid of the mud and dehydrated food awaiting you, why not experience the Beaks & Feathers luxe way?
Returning to Oban each day. Only having to carry a light day bag, a delicious lunch made from a locally owned café, and returning to the luxury of accommodation at the end of each day with hot showers and comfortable beds.
We recommend checking out our Beaks & Feathers Boutique accommodation.
The Rakiura Track is known for its stunning coastal scenery and lush podocarp forest with mosses and ferns forming an impressive rich green carpet. The track follows open coast line, crosses through forested ridges, past saw milling relics from days gone by and winds along the shores of Paterson Inlet. Featuring mostly well-maintained boardwalks and gravel paths but with muddy sections.
Day 1 – Port William to Lee Bay. 9km 3 – 4 hours. 25 minute water taxi ride up the east coast to Port William Wharf. Follow the coast, pass historic sites like old sawmills, end at Lee bay where a vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Oban
Day 2 – Port William to North Arm. 13km 6 hours. 25 minute water taxi ride up the east coast to Port William Wharf. Cross forested ridges through diverse bush, with some muddy sections. Ends at North Arm Hut where the water taxi will take you for a 30 minute ride through Paterson inlet to Golden Bay Wharf
Day 3 – North Arm to Fern Gully/Oban. 13kms 5 hours Meet the water taxi at Golden Bay wharf for a 30 minute ride through Paterson inlet to North Arm Hut. Follow along the shore of Paterson inlet past milling relics, eventually leading back towards Oban.
